About Peace

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

History

Peace Lutheran was founded in 1964 when Corona’s population was estimated by the Chamber of Commerce to be about 22,000 residents.  At the time, there were some 50 churches serving the area including Norco, El Cerrito and Coronita.

The first Peace Lutheran service was hosted in February 1964 at the American Legion Hall.  That same year, in October, the small but energetic congregation hosted its first service on the Peace Lutheran campus in what is now our Fellowship Hall.  Soon after, the Peace Sanctuary was built.  As church membership grew, so did the need for space.  A third building to include the church office and education/classrooms for Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and a Preschool were added.

The Lutheran Church is often referred to as “the singing church”.   Martin Luther, who founded the Lutheran church, loved to sing and was a prolific composer.   Music has always been an integral part of Peace services.  Our first choir was organized at the church’s founding.   Today, our Worship Team keeps our musical legacy alive by leading the congregation in contemporary and traditional hymns throughout our services.

From handing out bottled water along the City of Corona’s annual 4th of July parade route, providing low-income local schoolchildren with much needed school supplies and clothing to serving at local soup kitchens and food banks, Peace members have put their faith in action through service to others for nearly 60 years.  We invite you to help shape our future.  Visit our Serve and Care, Connect and Worship pages to learn more.
